Welcome to Eleni's Kitchen

The story of two sisters and yiayia who taught them all

Greek grandmother yiayia Eleni with her granddaughters Thierry and Natalie
Eleni’s Kitchen + Bar, was born out of a conversation within our immediate family, reminiscing about the good old days when our family owned a whole host of businesses in Yarraville. Among them the first Greek restaurant, opposite the “Sun Theatre,” in what is now known as the “Yarra Lounge!” In those days the “Sun Theatre,” screened Greek films on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. We thought, why not bring back traditional Greek food, back to Yarraville, where it all started…. Read more

Malakas With Attitude

Jam Packed with Malakies this show is Gut Bustlingly Funny!

George is best known for his Memo character in Acropolis Now but George has been a Stand Up comic for over 33 years. He has received two ACE awards for Best Comedy for ‘Il Dago’ and last year, he & his team were again nominated for ‘Wildwogs’.

“I’ve had a few complaints about the title, because ‘Malaka’ can be a very naughty greek word, but in the end its all about how you use any word. It was the same when I did ‘Wogs Out Of Work’ 30 yrs ago. It’s not what you say, its how you say it!’ says George.

Here’s what critics say…

George is a great story teller...There were nonstop bursts of laughter through the show! George knows his Craft and is certainly a very talented man.

SA MALE MAGAZINE 11th March 2018

Kapiniaris never fails to deliver more laughs than you can poke a moussaka at, and this show certainly provides a constant source of hilarity... Definitely worth a look.

This show isn’t just about the Big Malakas in the world. It’s about the Little Malakas too. Its about time all the Malakas made a stand. Malakas stand up and be counted! You don’t have to be a Malaka to see this show about Malakas. You don’t have to be from the Strait of Malacca. Whats a Malaka? See the show and find out Malaka!

This show is George Kapiniaris’s latest offering, and in it he takes a swipe at malakas everywhere. This is a great Greek go-to word which can be an exclamation of pleasure, a cry of horror, or used in its literal Greek translation, wanker. Make of that what you will. It’s this latter definition which Kapiniaris explores through his show; Greek malakas, Australian malakas, malakas of every colour and religious persuasion, no one is spared. Kapiniaris is a regular Fringe performer, and he never fails to deliver more laughs than you can poke a moussaka at, and this show certainly provides a constant source of hilarity. This is a very vigorous performance with Kapiniaris using the entire stage as he accompanied his monologue with a full-on workout. I’m also amazed that he had a voice left by the end, as there are no pauses in his delivery, much of it a full-throated roar. Definitely worth a look.

Chef Christos Katopodis

one of the premier Greek chefs in Melbourne

two sisters Natalie and Thierry with Greek yiayia Eleni and chef Hristos standing above them

We would like you to meet our head chef Christos Katopodis. ⁣
Christos is one of the premier Greek chefs in Melbourne who has honed his skills at some of the top Greek restaurants – some you may be familiar with are Jim’s Greek Tavern, Alpha Ouzeri, or The Greek Grill to name just a few. His speciality is seafood cooked on charcoal (and singing while doing it).⁣
While we do not have a video of Christos singing (we hope to catch him singing soon) we do have this photo of him with yiayia Eleni.
